“Art, music, theatre, and storytelling are not merely embellishments to the work of remembrance — they are essential instruments of healing, empathy, and the transmission of historical memory across generations.”
The cultural and community spaces of the Vibhajan Vibhishika Smriti Nyas campus provide a diverse and richly appointed set of venues for commemoration, performance, dialogue, education, and community gathering. From the flagship Smriti Auditorium to the open-air Amphitheatre, from intimate Cultural Pavilions to the welcoming Community Hall, each space has been designed to serve a distinct purpose in the Nyas’s mission of remembrance and renewal.
Together, these venues host more than 200 events annually — ranging from solemn national commemorations to vibrant literary festivals, from documentary film premieres to community storytelling evenings, from academic symposia to children’s theatre productions. The campus’s cultural programme draws audiences from across India and from the global South Asian diaspora.
We invite you to walk these grounds, engage with this history, and carry its lessons forward into the world.
The Smriti Auditorium is the flagship indoor performance and event venue of the Vibhajan Vibhishika Smriti Nyas campus. With a seating capacity of 600 and fully equipped with state-of-the-art acoustics, lighting, and audio-visual infrastructure, the Auditorium hosts a rich and diverse programme of events throughout the year.
The Auditorium’s design is both dignified and versatile. The main hall can be configured in a range of layouts to suit different event formats:
Technical facilities include a fully equipped backstage area, two green rooms for performers and speakers, a technical control cabin with professional lighting and sound boards, large LED projection screens, and a simultaneous translation system supporting four languages. A dedicated events team provides full production support for all events hosted in the Auditorium.
The Auditorium is also fully equipped for hybrid events, with high-quality live streaming infrastructure that allows events to be broadcast to audiences worldwide. The Nyas’s annual commemorative events and flagship lectures are regularly watched by tens of thousands of viewers online.
The Auditorium is the principal venue for the Nyas’s flagship annual commemorative events, including:
The Nyas actively commissions new works of theatre, music, and performance that engage with Partition themes, ensuring that the campus’s cultural programme remains dynamic, contemporary, and artistically ambitious.
Set amidst the natural beauty of the campus gardens, the Open-Air Amphitheatre is one of the most beloved spaces on the campus. Capable of accommodating an audience of up to 1,200, this graceful outdoor venue is designed for performances that benefit from the intimacy of open-air settings.
The Amphitheatre’s curved seating creates a natural acoustic bowl that is exceptionally suited to folk music, spoken word, and storytelling performances. The stage looks out over a carefully curated garden backdrop, with the Garden of Resilience and its 1,947 memorial trees visible in the middle distance — creating a naturally resonant setting for performances dealing with Partition themes.
Regular events at the Amphitheatre include:
The Amphitheatre is particularly central to the Nyas’s outreach programmes for schools and community groups. Its informal, open-air setting makes it an ideal space for introducing young visitors to Partition history in an approachable and emotionally resonant way.
Dotted across the campus grounds, the Cultural Pavilions and Exhibition Courtyards serve as flexible, open-plan spaces for rotating art exhibitions, craft demonstrations, community workshops, and informal cultural gatherings. These structures are architecturally inspired by traditional pavilion forms from across the Indian subcontinent — from the haveli courtyards of Punjab to the open mandaps of Bengal — and are designed to provide shade, comfort, and an aesthetically harmonious setting for cultural engagement.
The pavilions regularly host:

We believe that every event held on this campus is an act of remembrance. Whether a solemn commemoration or a joyful celebration of community, every gathering here is held in the presence of the millions whose memory we honour.
In 1947, the land of five rivers was divided. Millions were displaced. Centuries of shared culture, sacred shrines, and living heritage were torn apart overnight. Vibhajan Vibhishika Smriti Nyas is built so that nothing is forgotten.
